FARM MANAGER, PROBLEM SOLVER

Jason Blades Hrynko

With over two decades of experience in landscape and property management, leading day-to-day operations at Myrtle Grove Hemp Farm is a natural role for Jason. Relationships between people and places have always inspired his craft, from planting in the garden with his grandfather as a boy, to now sharing the incredible view of the Miles River from Myrtle Grove with his wife and kids. If you ask a neighbor, they’ll tell you that Jason knows everyone in the Maryland farming community; and they’d be right! When he’s not contending with the elements to yield a great hemp crop, you can find Jason hunting, fishing, and lovin’ every day (if that sounds like the title of a country song, that's because it’s literally the title of a country song).

MYRTLE GROVE STEWARD

Patrice Miller

Thrilled by the opportunity to steward such a historic site, the Millers purchased Myrtle Grove from original descendants of the Goldsborough family. Rehabilitating historic properties is a passion for the Millers, who previously renovated homes in D.C., Key West, and even a mill in Southern France. Though she was raised on an Eastern Shore farm, Patrice never thought she’d return to one, much less orchestrate its revival. But now, she relishes tending to the vegetable gardens and perennials at Myrtle Grove, a task she often performed for her mother and grandfather as a child. The farm has become the gathering spot for the Miller family—hosting nine family weddings and countless holidays and celebrations. In springtime, you’ll find Patrice watching the sun set over the Miles River as the cherry trees start to blossom.

GROWER, JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES

Will Samuels

“Will it be easy? Nope. Will it be worth it? Absolutely!" Will’s mantra perfectly describes the commitment needed to produce craft-quality hemp. Keeping up with summer weeds and adapting to shifts in the weather can lead to long, exhausting days, but seeing how the hemp plants stand tall in the early, cool hours of the morning makes it all worthwhile. Will’s earliest memory of farm work is putting corn seeds in the ground with his grandfather. Those experiences helped shape a work ethic that caught Jason’s attention and led to Will joining the Myrtle Grove team. When Will isn’t working hard, he’s playing hard—riding dirt bikes, getting out on the water, playing volleyball, and finding a new favorite spot to eat.

GROWER, JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES

David Blades

In addition to a shared dedication to hard work, David’s love of fishing, hunting, and feasting on crabs is held in common by nearly every member of the Myrtle Grove team. With each season, David learns more about the complexities of cannabis cultivation and how to support a successful harvest. One of his favorite aspects of the growing season is the aroma of the hemp plants at harvest time—a nod to memories of picking pole beans with his grandfather growing up. In quiet moments, David enjoys watching the wildlife gather near the farm pond and the Miles River.

OPERATIONS ADVISOR, HEMP GURU

Thomas Langan

It didn’t take long for Thomas to put his biology degree to work, moving to Colorado after graduation to grow cannabis under Amendment 64. While out west, Thomas helped a plant nursery transition into a fully functioning hemp farm and supported outdoor production on another 250-acre farm. Originally a product of D.C., Thomas returned home to the nation’s capital where he founded Apogee Farms, an urban farm dedicated to growing low-input produce as the foundation of a sustainable food system. In his role with Myrtle Grove, Thomas draws from his expertise as a grower to guide the team’s efforts in cultivating craft-quality hemp.

GRAPHIC DESIGN, CREATIVE SUPPORT

Michelle Boscamp

A Chicago native, Michelle traded the Windy City for the Florida Keys, where she supports The Studios of Key West. A mutual connection to the non-profit theatre, gallery, and museum put Michelle in touch with the Millers, bringing her skills to the story of Myrtle Grove. Michelle is an architect by training, and is passionate about community engagement, innovative communication, and the reality that “life begins outside your comfort zone”—an apt motto for a Midwesterner who now finds herself surrounded by flower-eating iguanas.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, MARKETING

Cindy Hardin

When Cindy participated in the Myrtle Grove hemp harvest for the first time, she found herself obsessively trimming every leaf off every bud to make sure the plants yielded the greatest possible impact. The process of harvest and hand trimming with the Myrtle Grove team was so rewarding it sparked a desire to be involved in the next stage—formulating the actual salves, balms, and edibles. Cindy completed the LabCannamist certification course to gain the skills needed to maximize the benefits of CBD in MG products. When Cindy's not developing the next great hemp balm, you can find her scouring Cricut templates for a new onesie design for her nephew, hanging out with her dog Finley, or washing sticky hemp residue off her hands before heading home to her wonderful family.

PHOTOGRAPHER, SUPPORTING MANAGER

Jessica Hrynko

Shortly after offering to lend her husband Jason a hand with planting and harvesting, Jessica found herself running a tractor and discing up fields. And it didn’t stop there...in addition to preparing soil and seeding hemp, Jessica chronicles daily life on the farm through her camera lens. She loves watching seeds turn into plants, flowers, and healing salves—a seasonal demonstration of her favorite saying: “hold the vision, trust the process.” When she isn’t behind the wheel of a John Deere or enjoying her family and dogs, Jessica is working towards a nursing degree. She hopes to use her unique skill set to advocate for plant-based cannabis treatments that provide holistic benefits to patients.
